Book of Dead Game Guide
Learn how Book of Dead works, including reels, paylines, symbols, free spins, expanding symbols, RTP, volatility and mobile play.
Book of Dead uses a familiar five-reel slot structure but puts most of its identity into the book symbol and the free-spins round. The information below describes the commonly distributed version; the in-game help screen is the final reference for any casino-specific configuration.
Reels and paylines
The standard game uses five reels, three rows and ten fixed paylines. Wins are normally formed from left to right on an active payline, starting from the first reel.
Symbols and features
The symbol set mixes card ranks with Egyptian-adventure icons. The book is the important multifunction symbol: it can act as a wild to substitute for regular symbols and as a scatter to trigger the bonus when enough copies land.
Free spins and expanding symbol
During the free-spins feature, one ordinary paying symbol is selected. When enough copies of that symbol appear, it can expand to cover the whole reel. Because the selected symbol can expand across multiple reels, the bonus can produce much larger swings than the base game.
RTP and volatility
The commonly cited theoretical RTP for the standard version is 96.21%, with high volatility. RTP is a long-run theoretical figure, not a prediction for a session. Some operators or jurisdictions may use a different approved configuration, so check the game information panel where you play.
Mobile play
Modern releases are generally delivered in HTML5 and can run in supported mobile browsers. Screen size, connection quality and operator integration can affect the experience.
